The Tuned In Academy

Welcome Carol to the TIA Team!

Carol is an innovative and passionate music teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching children of all ages. She specializes in music education with a nurturing and developmental focus for individuals or groups while maintaining a private music teaching practice.

Her appreciation and development for music began at a young age through the influence of her father (a violinist); exposure to multi-cultural music, plays, operas, and instrumentation. During her elementary and secondary school years, she participated in school choirs, drama, music and worship ministries.

Her formal music education began in Malaysia, studying piano under the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), where she completed both her final levels of Theory and Practical.  She continued to pursue her music education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi where she earned both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees with an emphasis in music composition.  Additionally, she earned certifications in Orff Schulwerk (Levels I, II, III) at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas

Her music teaching experiences gave her many opportunities to work with children and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds in the learning and teaching through experience, influence, and exposure to multiple teaching modalities.  They include implementing the Carl Orff’s Schulwerk and Kodaly methods; beginning recorder, band and orchestra; chorus and hand bell choirs; choreographing and conducting of Christmas musicals, plays, and spring programs.

Carol has worked professionally in Hawaii, Oregon, Texas and now in Olympia, Washington. She has taught private piano and a variety of stringed instruments. Her interests have taken her into learning how to repair and refurbish stringed instruments while continuing to volunteer playing piano, organ and electronic keyboard in her community.

Carol comes to us highly recommended by supervisors and peers, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. Most importantly of course, Carol is a fit with our mission and values.

Carol is enrolling now for private lessons in strings and piano Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and we will be putting elementary music/mommy and me music classes and strings classes on the schedule very soon. If interested in a class and you have specific day/time needs, drop us a line and let us know.
