The Tuned In Academy

About The Academy

We are your resource for quality and affordable private & group music lessons in the South Puget Sound, and online via virtual lessons (Facetime, Zoom, Skype, Google Hangout)

With eight trained, seasoned, and professional musician-educators and on faculty, five highly capable and qualified associate or student faculty, and one licensed and board-certified music therapist on our team, our focus is on quality, relational, and thorough education and therapy to real people, not numbers. We keep our class sizes small for lots of hands on, fun, and relational music making and teaching. We offer music instruction in band instruments (such as trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and clarinet), orchestral strings (violin, viola, and cello), percussion (drums and mallets), piano, voice, ukulele, bass, and guitar. We also teach songwriting, music production and recording, and rap. TIA faculty are graduates from excellent programs at schools like Berklee College of Music, the number one music school in the world and Western Washington University, a top ten music college in Washington state. Our student and associate faculty are capable musicians actively involved in the community with their music, making a difference every day.

What We Do

The public and private schools often offer music programs such as band, choir, and orchestra. These can be wonderful programs but even then, some public and private school students are unable to partake for whatever reason.  The Tuned In Academy exists for everyone in the Olympia/Lacey area, or within the commuting distance if you’ll drive to our downtown Olympia studio. Any student, adult or child, from public, private, or home-school can be a part. This is conservatory quality instruction, at an affordable price. [Read More]

Small Group Master Class Format

Our small group classes are much more like master class than what you may think of when you read the words group class. Even our largest groups are still smaller than most classes (no more than 8-10 students). But most of our small group classes have between 3-6 students in them and become sweet close-knit little master classes where we get to know each other real well, learn in community, and have a whole lot of fun!

Our Mission & Values

Our mission is to train students of all ages to create music with excellence and to see its greatest value not in the music itself, but in how it can serve others.

As a non-profit*, we also exist to provide music education to everyone, and strive to make it accessible to those most in need of community, hope, and freedom from poverty, addictions, and pain.

Values drive an organization’s mission.  At Tuned In we value people. In fact, while we love music, we realize that it is merely an art form, an expression, and a medium. We value community (and people) as inherently more valuable than any medium or man created thing- including music. [Read More]

The Tuned In Musician

There have been many excellent books written for musicians that deal fairly extensively with the issues, challenges, and concerns of what has been called the inner-musician. Specifically, texts such as The Inner Game of Music, The Mastery of Music, and Effortless Mastery, just to name a few. These books are written by some of the worlds finest musicians, and offer some excellent advice to the musician. This book however seeks to dig deeper, or perhaps further back would be a better description…[Read More]
