  2. We’ve had some encouraging response so far on the Sounds in the Streets project! Thanks so much to those who have responded thus far! Goal is 10-15 per class for Sound in the Streets. We hope to launch first class no later than late Spring or Summer.

  4. My son Josiah is very interested in the art class. He loves art. If it is late enough on Sat. He would love to be in the 7-9th grade class. He has dance until 11:30 on Sat. Please keep us posted! Thanks. Amy

  5. What a great idea! Pencil in our girls as a maybe depending on the final time frames offered. We are in church until 12:30 on Saturdays
& could come for a 1pm or later session. Thanks! 🙂

  6. My 6 year old daughter, Zophia would be interested. She has dance classes until 11:00 on Saturdays. If the classes for her age group are later, some time after 11:30, she’d want to try her hand at art.

How long do you think the classes would be? Half an hour – hour? And would most of the work be done during class? Or would there be work to be done at home?

Would supplies be extra? If so can you give me an idea of how much they might cost.

It sounds like it’s a 12 week program, is that correct? I feel comfortable committing to 12 weeks, ….it’s just that she’s only in first grade and I’m trying to balance activities without over doing things. 🙂

    Thanks.

  7. I am interested in signing up for the KAB class. Do you have any good leads on keyboards? I have a piano at church but would rather have a smaller keyboard at home which is more convenient. Thank you! My phone # is 360 791-6557.

  8. Professor,
Love this post! I couldn’t agree more with you regarding the Morissette comparison. I think the most impacting songs tend to be the ones that speak a broad (but not necessarily watered down) truth that is relatable across many generations. I also couldn’t help but think how just like there is nothing new under the sun, as we both know, there are also no new notes to create in music. The same notes and chords have been recycled over and over throughout history. Both the Beatles and Iron Maiden played a a D note in their day, yet their differences are starkly contrasted musically. Just like music and the writing of it, I believe this vibrantly reflects the diversity of humanity. We are all made up of the same essential parts and functions, yet every single person is so uniquely made to resonate it our own individual ways. Fascinating. Thanks for the link to your blog!

  9. Hi, Can you please let me know if Ms. Julie Funchion gives private violin lesson and if she does, how much she would charge per hour? Thanks,
    Mimi

  10. Really great article. I love the detail of each daily practice plan. Also ending with an improvisation, or other fun activity, is a great idea. Looking forward to the next posts!

    1. Thanks Jordan! Yes, I always suggest five minutes of fun, experimental, improvisation, or playtime music making for every fifteen minutes of serious activity. It is a fun way to end each 15 minute session.

  11. Hello! My 7-year-old son is interested in the beat boxing class. Is there a minimum age? When does the session begin?
    Thanks!
    Christen

-Also, my son started private piano lessons with Jordan last month and I just wanted to say that it’s been a VERY positive experience. He loves going to his lessons. 🙂 Thanks!

    1. Hey Christen! Thanks so much for the note! I will check with Thomas, but I am pretty sure 7 would be just fine. And I am so glad that your son is enjoying his lessons with Jordan! That’s awesome! We strive to provide friendly, fun, and excellent experiences in music education!
If you would, perhaps share some of your experience sometime on Google or Facebook reviews, that would be awesome too! I will pass your note on to Jordan and get back to you on the class.

  12. My fiance is interested in taking a couple private voice lessons before our wedding in August. He plays piano and would like to perform a song at our wedding. He is available during the week after 5pm for lessons. Does TIA offer pay per lessons or is it monthly rates only? If TIA instructors aren’t available in the evening, do you have a recommendation for anyone local who is? Thank you kindly!

    1. We generally enroll students in regular weekly lessons that pay by tuition to secure their spot. Pay by lesson is possible, if the space is available. My recommendation in such a case would be to book individual lessons based on availability. Molly currently does not have after 5PM spots available, but she has discussed coming in n Thursdays and opening that day up, that could be a possibility. Or, she could book you individual lessons when some of her evening people are out if that works (which may be better for that which you are asking).

  13. Our piano teach moved out of the area and we are looking for piano lessons for our 3 children. Our 15 year old daughter that has been playing for 9 years, 10 year old daughter that has been playing for 4 years and our 8 year old son that is beginning.

  14. My 2nd grader is interested in voice lessons. Do you offer a class for her age? What’s the time/price commitment?

    Thanks!

  15. Hi Carol,

My grandson, Sawyer James is 4 yr old and your Step in Tune Elementary Music Class would be perfect for him on Wednesdays. How best to proceed do you need to meet us,etc.

I would be interested in a private lesson,if need be.
    Looking forward to your response.

    Thank you,
    Jeanie Bradley

  16. I would LOVE to take this class!! I am a jazz singer and have begun writing my own songs. I study at NJPAC in the Jazz for Teens Saturday program, and have been doing so for the past 4 years. (It used to be 12-5 at NJPAC but now it is being done through Zoom every Saturday). I also have been taking piano at NJPAC.

  17. Hi I have some questions:
    – Will the class be live real time or video on demand?
    – What prior experience required? (I had no experience, cant read music yet)
    – Is that 4 classes a month? How long is the duration of this class?

    Thanks!

  18. I would love to sign up for family lessons. For me (the mom) and my 5 year old and my 2 year old (who is likely to be too young to learn but able to learn to start enjoying the process of watching her sister and moon learn).

I am interested in guitar or piano. Perhaps drums. Maybe all of them, after a solid foundation is set with just one. Looking for long term.

    1. TIA is on break Dec 21 through Jan 2. We will be back in the studio Jan 4. We will not be answering messages at this time as we will all be spending much needed time with family & friends. Most of our teachers are on a waitlist, but we still have great slots and a new piano lab Fridays at 630PM for beginners starting this fall. Drop us a line & tell us what you are interested in and what your availability is like and we will get back to you as soon as we are back onlline. First come first serve.

  19. Hello, I just came across your thoughtful article on busking! Thank you so much for posting it. Yes my husband – PK Dwyer – is a busker. Some buskers are greatly talented and some are not. Many are not treated with the respect they deserve as unique and creative artists. It can be quite difficult to make a living solely by busking but some people do it. One thing that is very frustrating to buskers is when people take photos and video and then do not tip. Busking is an art and should be appreciated more.

  20. Hello! I am in the Steamboat island area of west Olympia and my 13 year old son has been playing trumpet but is thinking of switching to flute over the summer. I was wondering where you guys are located and what his options would be for lessons over the summer. I also have a 3.5 year old who loves music and we wondered how early he could start piano lessons! Thanks in advance!

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! I will also email as well since sometimes these web responses are hard to find. We are at 202 Phoenix Street NE Olympia, right off the Pacific Avenue exit. Has he studied trumpet privately? I would love to teach him if I have time! We could probably do flute for him, depends on his availability. We usually start piano at 5, sometimes we have had success with 4 year olds.

  21. It was fascinating to know that reading music notation is an essential skill that music students must learn. My son wants to improve his drumming skills. I should let him take private drum lessons to acquire advanced skills.

  22. Hi! This post could not be written any better! Reading
this post reminds me of my previous room mate! He always kept chatting about this.
I will forward this write-up to him. Pretty sure he will have
a good read. Thank you for sharing!
