Ashlyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Central Washington University and has over 20 years of musical experience. Her performance experiences range from participation in university choirs and ensembles to community church worship groups, freelance musician gigs, and solo artist shows. She recently spent some time in Los Angeles performing, recording, and touring nationally and locally with the urban folk band Welcome Home. Voice
During her education at Central, Ashlyn became versed in a variety of solo and choral vocal styles, including jazz, opera, folk, classical, pop, and musical theatre. She enjoys helping her students find and embrace their unique voice and bring it to full fruition. She also is committed to cultivating the musicianship of each voice student, and that includes incorporating in lessons concepts of rhythm, ear-training, IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), and of course, note-reading.

Piano
Ashlyn fell in love with piano when she began lessons at the age of eight. She went on to study theory and composition at a community college during her last two years of high school and further refined her skills at university. She is experienced in classical techniques as well as jazz and pop styles. In addition to note-reading, Ashlyn also enjoys teaching her students how to read and improvise on chord and lead sheets as well as compose their own music.

Ashlyn has been an educator for 14 years and has taught in both classroom and private instruction settings. She believes that learning can and should be enjoyable. She also believes that a good lesson includes psychology and listening, and she promises to try to find the right way to work with each individual’s learning style. In order to further her own professional development and research, Ashlyn is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Music Education degree.
