The Tuned In Academy

Consistency and Excellence

This is a powerfully true statement. Talent is great, but most musicians that have something special to offer bring something far more precious than just talent; they bring consistency to their music. They are disciplined. They develop as musicians over time, and that consistency brings forth excellence.

At TIA we provide consistency across the board from lessons with one faculty member or a class with one, to the other. In other words, whether you are beginning piano, ukulele, guitar, trumpet, drums, or voice with one of our regular faculty members, an associate faculty member, or even a student teacher, you can be sure that you will get the same quality of instruction. The theory, technique, attention to detail, repertoire, opportunity, compassion and care will be the same regardless of the teacher you study with. This is because we are not just a bunch of individual teachers teaching out of one studio. We are TIA, and there is a TIA way. Part of our commitment is making sure every student gets that same experience.

All of our students will learn the essentials of reading music notation including rhythmic interpretation and melodic notation, and most of our students will also learn to read chord symbols. Everyone learns their scales, beginning with the foundational 48 (majors, minors, melodic minors, and harmonic minors). Most will go beyond that to learn their modes and many advanced scales as well. Piano, guitar, and ukulele students will learn their chords, not just the diatonic chords, but all chords. Advanced students will learn tensions, altered chords, and advanced improvisation theory.

Consistency in these things will bring excellence.

  1. It was fascinating to know that reading music notation is an essential skill that music students must learn. My son wants to improve his drumming skills. I should let him take private drum lessons to acquire advanced skills.
