We need music now more than ever. The world is in the midst of a pandemic, activities are cancelled, schools are—who knows? And we get all of that. We also get the need for safety. But the music must keep going, for many, it is the best part of their week!

So much of life as we all know it has changed. Schools have not been in regular session since shortly after Covid-19 hit WA state. Who knows what will happen with them in the school year? But kids still desperately need community, creative outlets, continued opportunities for learning! We get that 100%.

Safety of our TIA faculty, staff, students, and all of their families as well as the greater community are of an upmost priority. We realize that it is still considered by many to be a high risk to gather in groups without careful social distancing and the use of face coverings (especially in public places).

We will be launching new classes this fall in Beginning Piano, Guitar, and Drums as well. Each of these classes will be limited to very small groups for optimum safety (probably four students per class) to allow for at least six feet of distance between each child. We will also be offering our Next Level Homeschool Band which may have just a few more students in it, but again, only so many as we can hold with effective and safe social distancing.

We have a careful safety plan approved by one of our students who just so happens to also be a US Army Public Health and Safety Officer, you can view it here. We are wearing masks (with the exception of vocalists/voice teachers, wind players/wind teachers—in which cases we use plexiglass screens), and we have plenty of Clorox wipes and are using them after every piano lesson, throughout the day, etc. CJ Sparkles also does a full service clean once a month for us.

In addition to our new group classes, we always have continuing class in piano, guitar, and drums, and if your child has experience and may be a fit for one we are more than happy to meet up for an assessment (or do it virtually) to see if that may be an option. We are also always enrolling for private lessons in piano, guitar, cello, violin, bass, ukulele, trumpet, saxophone, flute, clarinet, trombone, drums, and voice. Private lessons are available in the studio or online/virtually anywhere in the world!

Guitar for Absolute Beginners: One of the best options for learning guitar in the Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater area, this class is a great foundation for learning guitar, having fun, and doing it in community with a great teacher (Thomas). This class is ideal for students ages 9-12.

Next Level Homeschool Band: Your students will have fun, make friends, and learn the essentials of embouchure, technique, theory, scales, and how to make great music! They will of course also have the opportunity to participate in some of our many performance opportunities throughout the year! Students will get 90 minutes a week of instruction and playing time! That’s one hour in a whole band class and 30 minutes of small group masterclass instruction (one for brass, one for woodwinds, and if needed, one for percussion).  Taught by our director, SD, who has over 22 years of experience as a music educator and founded our academy.

Trumpet, trombone, euphonium/baritone, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and drums/percussion. We will limit the class size for optimum safety, so drop us a line today!

Teen Drum Lab: One of the most fun ways to introduce young people to drums, and the only place that we know of in the Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater area to learn drums in a group environment from a conservatory trained musician. Classes are fun, friendly, and taught by a conservatory trained and highly capable working drummer in the industry (Jordan). This class is ideal for students 12-14.

Wind Lab for Second Year Wind Players and Beyond:

So many students are struggling right now to be motivated to practice and work on their Horn because COVID-19, no gatherings, etc. who knows what will happen this fall?! We are here for you. We are putting together small master class labs for wind players, just $60 monthly for new TIA students ($40 for current students). Looking for wind players now that know most of their major scales and read well that want to work on their craft with others. Limiting class six to four for COVID-19 safety.
