The Tuned In Academy

Summer Help

Dear Friends:

My name is Sean-David. I am the Director of The Tuned In Academy, a local non-profit academy of music here in Olympia. You may have seen us in the Olympian. What you may not know is that all of our teachers are committed to a set of strong values and driven by a mission to teach music in a way that matters and makes a real difference in the lives of our students. Currently my wife and I fund a majority of our operation out of our own pockets. I also teach online and often even pick up other work as well to provide for my family and keep the academy running, because I believe in the mission.

As you know, needy families and individuals in our community struggle just to provide food, shelter, and basic human needs for themselves and their family every day due to a variety of factors. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, the children often struggle the most. We exist to provide music education to everyone, and strive to make it accessible to those most in need of community, hope, and freedom from poverty, addictions, and pain.

As we begin summer, I am getting calls and emails regularly as I always do from parents wishing they could enroll their children at TIA, if we had scholarships to give. Sadly right now it is all we can do to pay our hard working teachers and keep the lights on. But with the generous support of people like you, we hope to serve many of these families by providing meaningful music education through caring relationships that they would otherwise not have the opportunity to take part in. Music education should not be merely for the elite. Our goal this year is to raise $10,000. If we reach this goal, we can scholarship between 10-15 students for an entire year, maybe more with our sliding scale.

Would you consider carefully how you could help support the arts and help make a difference in the life of a future TIA student? I would love to meet with you and buy you a cup of coffee to discuss monthly support, or you may mail a check to The Tuned In Academy, 202 Phoenix Street, Olympia, WA, 98506. Sincerely,

Sean-David J. McGoran

Many of the students in this picture received scholarships from individuals and community partners in our community band in Fort Smith, Arkansas. We would love to see the same thing happen here in Olympia, WA!
