Adult Students at TIA
We have about 30 adult students at TIA currently. Students that are university faculty and staff, high ranking officers in the US Army, military and postal retirees, state employees, retired engineers, and missionaries, and they are all awesome people. You should join them on the journey! We held a special adult recital last fall and look forward to another this next year.
It Takes a Community
Yesterday I had the honor and privilege of sitting in on a handful of band classes at a local middle school. I started with the jazz band at 7:25AM (which is way too early for anyone to be doing anything let along playing music). Period after period from 7:25 to nearly 11:30 they came in, […]
Summers are Tough
Summers are tough for small non-profits. Almost every student in this community band we started in Arkansas was here by scholarship. These by the way are probably double numbers for a class than what we currently enroll as well. How was this possible? Churches, community organizations, individuals, and families stepped up and supported the mission. […]
Summer Help
Dear Friends: My name is Sean-David. I am the Director of The Tuned In Academy, a local non-profit academy of music here in Olympia. You may have seen us in the Olympian. What you may not know is that all of our teachers are committed to a set of strong values and driven by a […]
Serenading Seniors
We spent some quality time serenading the seniors of the South Sound this year, and I am convinced it is an important part what TIA is becoming, and what community minded musicians everywhere should be doing. This season we visited The Colonial Inn, The Olympia Senior Center, and Capital Place to bring the gift of […]
Music as a Gift: Community Music Making
At the academy, one of our core values is people. We also believe that music is more than mere commodity, but a gift that exists for the sake of community. What does that mean? It means that we believe that while there is nothing inherently wrong with the sale of music recordings, concert tickets, and […]

We are super excited to announce a new and unique opportunity for TIA students that is also open to any Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Shelton students that may be studying and learning music elsewhere. Starting this fall, JazzLab with SD! This fun, foundational, and formative experience will meet once monthly on Saturdays for an hour for […]
Caroling at The Colonial Inn Retirement Community
Our motto is where music matters and makes a difference. And it matters to us deeply that our students learn and experience what that means on multiple levels. We also desire that we as an academy can make a difference in the community. Yesterday a handful of our fine students volunteered to take the time […]
2016 Instrumental Music Scholarship Program
Help us reach more and make a difference through music this year through our 2016 Instrumental Music Scholarship Program! We hope to add 40 students this year to the academy. And our goal is to add those students TUITION FREE. As Director, my family and I have been paying to run the academy mostly […]
Reflection
I’m having a blast in our new Reading and Thinking through Classic and Contemporary Literature group and class. This FREE class is something we are doing for the community simply because we value great literature as art. We value reading, we value thinking, and we value people. But it is also a lot of fun! […]
