This is a great quote, and one we aspire to live up to always. We are always about doing so much more than just teaching information or theory, and so much more than mere demonstration. In fact, our students know that we generally are far more interested in hearing them make music than we are demonstrating something for them. When necessary, sure, we demonstrate. But far better in our minds is unpacking the concept and letting the student make the music and experiencing the rush and the joy that comes with it! And we will be there to cheer them on!
Did you know that TIA we teach teachers? As music educators, it is our passion to make music understandable, accessible, and a ton of fun. And teaching is our passion as well as making music. What makes us most happy is seeing other students and other musicians finding joy and excitement in their craft, enjoying the beauty and the mystery of music.
Did you know that at TIA we teach many other music teachers? Why? Because we want everybody who wants to learn music to have the opportunity to learn it well, and have access to great teaching. That’s why we love the fact that we can teach band directors, traveling private music teachers that go to people’s homes, worship leaders and worship pastors, and many more.. For example, for years we have had people call us and ask if we do in-home music lessons. As I always explain to them, unfortunately we just can’t do that. Most of our teachers teach back-to-back, are very busy and teach all day everyday and we just wouldn’t be able to do what we do and also be going to people’s homes. Many would-be students would miss out because of the time we would spend driving to and from homes. To that end, it excites me to know that we’ve got some teachers that do travel that may not be TIA teachers, but are TIA students. And we can feel good about knowing what people are getting from them.
It is exciting to know that there are music teachers out there in the community, worship leaders in churches, and other musicians in the area that are taking the #TIAexperience into their context, because music matters and makes a difference.
Here’s a review from one of the teachers that we teach.
