The Tuned In Academy

Instructors

Student Playing at our Summer Presentation in OlympiaOur Musician-Educators are educated, experienced, and enthusiastic. With Tuned In you can rest assured that you are receiving top quality education from musicians that have been formally educated in music, and more specifically in their specialties of music theory, composition, songwriting and lyric writing, and improvisation. These musician-educators have vast experience in both music—they are capable, qualified, able to teach well, and love music and people.

At Tuned In, we don’t just have musicians that teach music lessons, or teachers that play music. Conservatory trained musician-educators teach all of our classes and private music lessons. Our musicians have been trained in the art of music in conservatory, and have devoted their lives not just to making music, but teaching it. They teach not because they have to, but because they love and want to.

TIA is also NOT just a studio. We are not just a handful of teachers teaching under one building. TIA is an academy, a team, and held together by a common mission and set of values. In fact, all TIA faculty go through a careful process that involves personal vetting, a one on one interview with the director, a group interview with other TIA faculty, an audition, reference checks confirming their values, commitment to excellence, musical and teaching skills, and time in front of students.

Sammuel Blair

Sammuel Blair, Associate Faculty of Drums, TIA Seattle (Burien)Born and raised in Oregon, Sam began teaching himself how to play drums at the age of 7 by watching and learning from other drummers at his church. He would pat on the back of the chair in front of him and try to memorize what the drummer was doing. Later in 6th grade Sam took beginning band and learned how to read music and be a part of a band.

Throughout the rest of middle school and high school, Sam took as many band classes as he could to further grow in his art of drums and later learn guitar.

At the age of 12 Sam was recruited onto his worship team at Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Springfield Oregon and has drummed and played guitar for multiple churches to this day. Sam has a lot of experience of being in a band and knowing the role of a drummer and how they lead the band through dynamics, tempo, and style.

At the age of 18, Sam moved to Washington and continued the pursuit of music in different ways through internships at Grace Community Church where he learned all about sound and lighting, video editing, and leading worship. Sam is now excited to share his knowledge and help others to share the same passion that he does for music.

Sammuel is enrolling now for private drum lessons at TIA Seattle (Burien)
