The Tuned In Academy

Music as self care 1 One of the things that not enough people consider seriously when it comes to music. education is the importance and the value of music lessons as a significant and effective option for self-care. We live in an age where hopefully at this point everybody over the age of about 10, and especially adults should understand the importance, the value, and the need for self-care. There are, of course, so many different things that help people to care about themselves in practical ways that make a difference. It could be a massage for adults, a trip to the spa, it could be for many women or even men, getting your hair done just right by the person that you wanted to get done by, or nails, it could be regular therapy sessions or lengthy motorcycle rides.

What’s interesting is that if you talk to a lot of the people that understand the importance and the need for all these things just mentioned to come on for many of them. It’s more about the time spent with another adult that they can talk to and share their feelings with and feel heard and feel validated by, and not at nearly as much that has to do with the actual thing being done. But have you thought about the fact that for you, self-care could actually be learning to play a musical instrument? One of the cool things about that as an option is that if you learned to play an instrument, if you’re learning to play music, not only are you engaging in some great self-care during those lessons, but you can continue to engage in that same self-care act any day that you want to, and anytime that you want to throughout the week and in between your lessons! That’s actually something most people probably don’t get from other forms of healthcare. Of course, we could and would all benefit from practically and intentionally pursuing out some of the things we talk with our therapists outside of therapy, but do we? Honestly there may be a greater chance that we might be willing to sit down at the piano or pick guitar.
